Again in 2008, our primary focus will be investigating illegal searches and seizures by BLM law enforcement rangers. We will also provide information to Participants who received BLM citations. When we identify instances of unlawful conduct by the BLM, we will attempt to match defendants with a lawyer who will represent them against the Government. We also fund-raise to help indigent defendants hire Nevada counsel at reduced rates, and there is a paypal link on our website.
For our work following the event, we are recruiting volunteers to assist us meet the following needs:
1. Attorneys (admitted in any jurisdiction) who are willing to make a general appearance for a client charged with an infraction or misdemeanor. Criminal or Constitutional law specialization is not required, but the attorney must be willing to travel to Reno for arraignment and trial. The arraignment calendars will occur on October 16; November 20 and December 18, 2008.
2. Nevada attorneys who are willing to sponsor other attorneys’ pro hoc vice applications
3. Anyone with time to help us with administrative and logistical support.. This includes collating feedback data and interviewing Participants by telephone. We also need help maintaining and updating our database and calendar systems. Finally, we need people to travel to Reno with us on October 16, November 20 and December 18, 2008 and answer questions from walk up defendants.
